Creature 3D is an upcoming Bollywood sci-fi thriller film directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar under the banner of T-Series in association with BVG Films. It stars Bipasha Basu and Imran Abbas Naqvi in the lead roles alongside a poorly-animated monster 😛 . Mithoon has composed the music for this film and so there was a huge hype about the music even before the trailer released. Tony Kakkar has also composed a song for the film as a guest composer. Unlike most T-Series albums nowadays, which are multi-composer, this is relatively better compared to them as there are only two composers, out of which one has only one song. 🙂 So let’s have a look at the music of ‘Creature 3D’!

1. Sawan Aaya Hai / Sawan Aaya Hai (Unplugged):- Singers ~ Arijit Singh (Original), Tony Kakkar (Unplugged Version), Music & Lyrics by ~ Tony Kakkar

Tony Kakkar… When I hear the name, I instantly think of club songs and party tracks. This is because of his composition history, mainly consisting of club or party tracks only. Well, when I heard this song first, I never knew it was by him. I was thinking it was by Mithoon the whole time. Then when I saw the credits after hearing the song, they read Tony Kakkar! I was shocked because this was an unexpected great melody from him! The song is a romantic song, composed in 90s style, like that of Nadeem-Shravan. Guitars have been placed very well. The flute is just so cute, that it instantly became my favourite instrument used in this song. The piano can be heard sometimes like after the antaras. The shakers are also interesting. These things make the song a pleasure to listen to, and make sure no bland moment comes in the song. When the song plays, it actually feels as if it is raining, because Bollywood had stereotyped these nice percussion and flute arrangements for rain songs mainly in the past. 😛 Nevertheless, the composition is utterly beautiful. The lyrics are typical and very simple, but passable. I mean, who cares about the lyrics when the music is so awesome!? Arijit has put in all his expression to sing this song (again, I think he does that in every song, except when he sings in that boring deep voice of his 😛 ) I never thought Tony would prove himself with a traditional Indian melody like this! The tune of the antaras is very nice and calm. The line ‘sabse chhupake tujhe seene se lagaana hai..’ in the mukhda has awesome dholak arrangements playing in the background. Tony will surely get the deserved recognition in Bollywood after this gem of a song! The other version of the song, which is sung by the composer himself, doesn’t fare as well as Arijit’s version. Though it has some interesting elements such as the thunder and rain sound effects, and some great guitar strums, the composer has auto-tuned his voice to such a high extent, that instead of improving the voice texture, it just plainly spoils it! It is still worth hearing once or twice however, for the cool arrangements and sound effects. 🙂 From now on, Tony will be known not only as an expert in the club genre, but also as a great melody-maker too! Arijit’s version is the better one and only that version is a #5StarHotelSong!!

 

2. Hum Naa Rahein Hum:- Singer ~ Benny Dayal, Music & Lyrics by ~ Mithoon

The credits confuse you a bit, because Benny Dayal is usually associated with upbeat tracks, and here he is singing in a movie directed by Vikram Bhatt. Definitely something was wrong. And the song starts and we realize it is an out-and-out romantic number. It starts with piano notes like most of Mithoon’s compositions, and then Benny takes some great aalaaps. The guitar joins after that, followed by the flute. The composition is just so different from what Mithoon has given us in the past two years, that one would not get attracted to it in the first listen itself, but it would take at least two or three listens, after which the song just seems to be a genius composition (well, it is!) The antaras especially, are supergeniusly composed. The tune is so different yet spellbinding! Arrangements are very good, with piano, guitar, flute as mentioned above, with the flute again stealing the show as it did in ‘Sawan Aaya Hai’. Benny has sung this song so beautifully that I regret not liking his voice in ‘Kabhi Ruhani Kabhi Rumani’ from ‘Raja Natwarlal’, and he has proved that he is definitely versatile, after all! The kind of husky voice he has produced just sounds awesome, and unmatchable. The humming he has done in between is also great. Mithoon has managed to extract the best out of him very well, and that too, in the first time working with him! This song will surely establish Benny as a romantic singer, as well, and not only those club songs he gets. Lyrics are typical Bhatt movie lyrics. 😛  Mithoon and Benny both at their level best and they give us a sweet must-listen song! #5StarHotelSong!

 

3. Naam-E-Wafa:- Singers ~ Farhan Saeed & Tulsi Kumar, Music & Lyrics by ~ Mithoon

This song is kick started by some beautiful guitar strums, and then the male singer starts singing, in a tune resembling ‘hum tere bin ab reh nahi sakte’ a lot. Mithoon sticks to his usual template of sad romantic songs, yet succeeds in creating another beautiful and mind-blowing melody. Again, I wonder how he just survives in the industry by recycling his old tunes by tossing the notes here and there! Nevertheless, he has created a track that is engaging till the last second, even though Tulsi Kumar is singing! He introduces a new singer with this song, Farhan Saeed. This man can sing under the name of Mustafa Zahid, it won’t make much of a difference. His voice is a ditto xerox copy of Mustafa’s. Whatever, it sounds great anyways. He sings each and every note with a lot of feel and expression. Tulsi Kumar has been singing well nowadays, I guess she got a bit worried about her future at last! In this song, she sings her line (yeah, it’s only one; composers these days are also very smart 😉 ) twice, and manages to do that without damaging our hearing with her high-frequency voice. Again, Mithoon has given awesome instrumentation. He has gone the traditional Indian way for the arrangements, using as many Indian instruments as he could and some great Arabic-sounding percussion. The santoor in one of the interludes just sounds plain awesome. That instrument itself is just awesome. The whole song is typical Mithoon melody, as I said before, but I was truly entertained throughout the song, and, I won’t lie, I didn’t find a single boring or déjà vu moment. The sargam by Farhan towards the end is enchanting. That whole conclusion is enchanting, with Farhan’s aalaaps as well. Again, the lyrics are typical, but the music and vocals cover that up. A recycled melody, but well-recycled at that, and not disappointing at all! #5StarHotelSong!

 

4. Ik Pal Yahi:- Singer ~ Saim Bhatt, Music & Lyrics by ~ Mithoon

Mithoon always has to go back to his debut days in Bollywood, and so he does this in this album as well, and brings Pakistani Rock here as well. After two romantic songs, and one sad song, this album starts to get a bit monotonous, and that’s why, despite some great arrangements, with rock guitars and drums, it gets boring to hear another sad song. The melody is typical Pakistani Rock, and the long duration of the song adds to the monotony. The violins have been orchestrated beautifully, however. The song gets a bit boring at a particular point, and then the second antara pops in, as if to say, ‘Wait, there’s more, get prepared for more boredom!’ The hookline doesn’t help either. The first time it’s great, then good, then just boring. At one point, when Saim sings ‘tujhe dekh dekh’ the tune takes exactly the same tune as ‘Banjaara’ from ‘Ek Villain’ has in its antara. Saim has sung good, but as the composition gets more and more melancholic, it seems as if his voice also follows suit and starts getting upset about something. 😛 At one point he sounds exactly like Atif Aslam, and at another point, like Mustafa Zahid. This is an example of:- Good singing, great arrangements have been done, but sadly to no avail, because of the monotony in the composition.

 

5. Mehboob Ki:- Singer ~ Mithoon, Music & Lyrics by ~ Mithoon

It starts with a high-pitched horn, which is played in a rather catchy tune, and surprisingly upbeat as well! This gives some hopes that the album will finally rise from its overdose of hardcore romance and sadness. The song has a romantic tune after that, but the arrangements are so non-Mithoon-ish, in fact I would say they are Meet Bros. Anjjan type, that they impressed me a lot! The horns in the background keep adding to the peppy quotient, and the techno sounds used impress as well. The piano notes in the interlude are a good addition. Mithoon has tried to rid himself of his typicality, and he succeeds to a certain extent. He has aced it with the arrangements, while the compsoition could just as well be one for a romantic song, had it not been for the awesome arrangements. If the percussion and brass weren’t there, the peppy feel would not have even come. Though there isn’t anything wrong in the composition, it just feels odd having such innovative arrangements from Mithoon and not an equally innovative composition to go along with it, barring the two words, ‘Mehboob Ki’, which have been repeated in a very interesting way. The antara has a great tune. The lyrics by Mithoon are romantic, like the tune. A great attempt by Mithoon to try something new, and an appreciated one too! Now to see him sign an all-out romantic movie, and compose a sensational masala track!

Creature 3D is an album full of mainly only two shades, these are romance and sorrow. At one point in the soundtrack, one will get very bored, and that is in the fourth song, ‘In Pal Yahi’, but that will be cured in the last song, ‘Mehboob Ki’. Tony Kakkar has given a gem, which has already become a sensation, and Mithoon has given two gems, one awesome attempt at something different, and one average song. All this, without leaving his comfort zone, that is romantic and sad songs, and still managing to impress with three out of four songs. Arrangements are brilliant in all songs, lyrics are okay in all songs. The only disappointing factor was the presence of Mithoon’s typicality, which is present in all his songs nowadays. He needs to swerve away from that, as it can get pretty boring for him and listeners later on. The hope of hearing another great thrilling song like ‘Bulbulliya’ from ‘3G’ in this album, remains ungranted. T-Series finally gives a worthy soundtrack, which is not filled with a thousand different composers with different skills. 🙂 Only problem is the monotony created by the album! Otherwise, we can say it is an album that will be loved by the public no matter how typical or monotonous it is!
