Badlapur is an upcoming Bollywood revenge/crime thriller, directed by Sriram Raghavan and produced by Dinesh Vijan. The film starts Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles while Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Divya Dutta, and Radhika Apte will be seen in supporting roles. The story revolves around a man who witnessed the murder of his wife and son in a robbery, and fifteem years later, he finds out who had pulled the trigger to kill his family. So, it’s your normal revenge story, but the execution of that, will be something interesting. Music by the film is given by the rocking, rapidly emerging (I think I can say already fully emerged 😛 ) duo, Sachin-Jigar. Their last album, ‘Happy Ending’, was one of the highest rated albums of last year, thus increasing our expectations manyfold. From them again, a rocking soundtrack is expected, and judging by the looks of the film and its theme, I’m expected something way more mature than their previous works. (Immature isn’t necessarily bad, but just saying!) So, let’s see whether they have kept up their great run, with this soundtrack, ‘Badlapur’!

1. Jee Karda / Jee Karda (Rock Version)
Singer ~ Divya Kumar

Already the song which has become a huge rage amongst the young generation, and which has already climbed the music charts to make it to the first position, kicks off this album, and there couldn’t be a better way to kickstart an album to a revenge film. Sachin-Jigar’s zestful composition instantly calls out to you, as if saying, “I bet you’ll never be able to stop playing me.” 😂 It is so very catchy, so very emotional and so very energetic, that you just can’t stop listening to it, or if you’re in the mood for it, you can’t stop singing along to the beats. Even though it is a rock song, it has a very predominant emotional feel to it, the sort that makes you actually feel for the character. Divya Kumar is just emerging as a better singer with each song. Each of his songs presents him in an entire new way in front of us, be it in a humorous way in ‘Shake Your Bootiya’ (Finding Fanny), or a cool-dude-ish way in ‘G Phaad Ke’ (Happy Ending). Here, he is presented in a whole new way, that is rockstar. If you go back to his debut in ‘Ishaqzaade’, that was rockstar-ish, kinda, but this one is way different from that, where he didn’t get the whole song to himself. Whatever the case be, Divya sounds perfect as a rock singer! Sachin-Jigar’s electrifying arrangements make the song even more worthwhile to listen to. The daflis in the second antara have been very efficiently and geniusly equipped. The rock elements, of course are the best things in the song. The sing does have a bit of an ‘Aao Na’ (Haider) feel to it, but that is absolutely fine! The lyrics, are mind blowing as well, with the right feel and expression in them. The rock version is a something for which whatever I write, will seem less. The way Sachin-Jigar have incorporated Qawwali style into a rock song, just deserves a huge round of applause. The lyrics of the second antara of the original version, have been wonderfully used as a Qawwali portion between the stanzas of this version. Awesome! Both the version have the ability to steal your heart away, both of them have been composed and sung and written with extreme soul and both of them are #5StarHotelSongs!!!

2. Jeena Jeena
Singer ~ Atif Aslam

Sublime guitar strums, lead us into the next song, surprisingly which is sung by Atif Aslam (surprising because, till now, we’ve seen him very early outside of Tips albums) Sachin-Jigar, once again, give a very sweet, melodious romantic song to Atif, which he performs very easily, this time, not shouting as he usually does, at all! The arrangements are soft, mostly led by just guitar, and do give a very peaceful feeling. Flute also impresses in the interludes. Sachin-Jigar’s composition, though nothing unique, steals our heart nevertheless with its utter simplicity, grace and sweetness. The antara, is the one part of the song that impresses highly. The hookline has been crafted to be a very gentle part, and the backing vocals around Atif’s voice while saying the title of the song, are particularly very stunning and sound beautiful. Priya, again provides lovable lyrics, perfectly going with the song. A romantic song, which would be loved by both young and old alike, and which has the capacity to live on for a long time! #5StarHotelSong!!

3. Judaai
Singers ~ Rekha Bhardwaj & Arijit Singh

How would you react to this: Rekha Bhardwaj and Arijit Singh in the same song, composed by Sachin-Jigar? I would go crazy and jump around with happiness, and you have all reason to do so as well! Because not only have Sachin-Jigar succeeded in bringing these two great singers together in the same song, but they’ve also made sure that the song wouldn’t lack in any aspect whatsoever. That is why everything, from the vocals, to the arrangements, to the composition, up to the lyrics have fallen right into perfect place, and put together, have created an impact that is unbelievable. Well, you have to hear it to believe it. Jigar with his backing vocals, starts off the song very soulfully, followed by a wonderful part by Rekha, singing in the lowest pitch we’ve heard her sing in till now. But the magic multiplies by multiple proportions, when someone called Arijit Singh, enters the track, singing what is probably the most soulful yet catchy line of the year till now. It also makes the song reach a point where your skin just develops goosebumps without you knowing that it has happened. The slow pace of the song doesn’t hamper its impact at all. In fact, it increases the same! A beautiful sarangi solo can be heard in the interlude, which makes you go Waah! Such songs with traditional and contemporary styles of music fused together in a very humble way, really come very close to your heart as the days pass. Priya, yet again delivers lyrics that I can’t find any proper word for describing! They’re just so brilliant! The hookline Chadariya jheeni re jheeni is just a glimpse of what great lyrics she’s written! 🙂 A song that touches your heart, and really gets you very emotional. Hats off to Sachin-Jigar for such a brilliant and mature composition! Brilliant vocals by Arijit and Rekha, and last but not the least, awesome lyrics from Priya! #5StarHotelSong!!!!!

And you know what that means… I hardly have to sum it all up for you guys, do I? All the songs have got that coveted tag (At least I hope its coveted 😂) and that’s purely because they deserve it. In Badlapur, Sachin-Jigar prove the classic theory of “Quality Over Quantity”, by giving us only three songs, but at the same to e, making sure that all three of them are beautiful, brilliant, mind-blowing etc etc etc. After ‘Happy Ending’, the duo continues their great (make that excellent) spree of composing out-of-this-world albums. Now, since the titles of all the songs start with the letter ‘J’, let me make a sort of pun here and say — Sachin-Jigar Ki ‘J’!!!!

Final Rating for This Album: सा < रे < ग < म < प < ध < नी < सां

Note: The letter which is underlined is the final rating.

Recommended Listening Order: Jee Karda = Jeena Jeena = Judaai = Jee Karda (Rock Version)

{ALL SONGS ARE TOP-NOTCH. THEREFORE, I’VE GIVEN ‘EQUAL TO’ SIGNS AND NOT ‘GREATER THAN’ SIGNS! 😃}
